Details

During the spring the canyon is full of wild flowers and Gregory Creek is flowing, filling the canyon with the sound of water running.

The Gregory Canyon hike is perhaps the easiest way to access the top of [[flagstaff-mountain-boulder|Flagstaff Mountain]] from the east side. Once you get to the Long Canyon Trail / [[ranger-trail-boulder|Ranger Trail]], you can take that north toward Flagstaff Road. After crossing that you can take the Ute Trail to the summit of Flagstaff.

If you go south from the top you continue up to the the peak of [[green-mountain-boulder|Green Mountain]].

History

The canyon is named for John Gregory who in the 1860's built a road up the canyon to his mines at Black Hawk. The road was impassable. There were several attempts to build road up the canyon which were abandoned when Flagstaff Road was completed in 1906.
