Details

There are a number of trails to the top of Green Mountain. The hikes are strenuous and take you through coniferous forest, open sections with great views and by natural springs.

Perhaps the best hike is to take the [[the-amphitheater-trail-boulder|Amphitheater Trail]] from the Gregory Canyon Trail head. You can also take the [[saddle-rock-trail-boulder|Saddle Rock Trail]] from there. The Amphitheater trail is a short, steep, well maintained trail that intersects with the Saddle Rock Trail. Once you join the Saddle Rock Trail it zig-zags up the mountain, and provides some great views of the city of Boulder. There are some great rock formations, lush forest and open forest along the way. The trail goes past the Saddle Rock formation, one of the most prominent rock formations seen from Boulder. The Saddle Rock is not visible from the trail. At the crest of the ridge where Indian Peaks becomes visible, Saddle Rock is a bit to the North. It can be reached by an easy scramble.

Saddle Rock trail crosses over the ridge and continues down to join up with the [[greenman-trail-boulder|Greenman Trail]]. At the junction you get a good view of your hike ahead to the peak of Green Mountain. The remaining hike is also steep. The trail is steep what many switch backs. You cross a small rock field twice on the way to the summit, and cross into open forest as you get closer to the summit.

There are three tail peaks close to Boulder, South Boulder Peak at 8549, Bear Peak at 8461, and Green Mountain at 8144. Green Mountain is perhaps the easiest one to climb from the east side.

Love Green Mountain

By Daryl, Green Mountain, Boulder

I love this hike. It's a tough hike up, very steep in places. I think the best route to the top is to take the Amphitheater to where it hooks up with the Saddle Rock trail. Then follow that over the ridge till you hit the Greenman trail to...
